27 January 2010 - NB1 C

  • Reading - How stressed? - (p.30).
  • Communication - Louisa's day.
Louisa seems quite stressed or very stressed. She has to look after her son and work all day. She gets up early and is always in a hurry. She has very little free time.
  • Listening - Simon's typical day.
  • Pronunciation - The letter o has different pronunciations.
    /ɒ/- Clock - coffee - job - shopping
    /u:/- Boot - do - school - two
    /ʌ/- Up - one - son - worried
    /əʊ/- Phone - don't - go - home
If you still have problems to pronounce these sounds, try to repeat them again at home. You can use an on-line dictionary to hear the pronunciation of the words.
  • Speaking – Telling the time.
What time do you wake up? - I usually wake up at 8.30 (half past eight), and you?
What time do you get up?
What time do you go to work/school?
What time do you start work?
What time do you have lunch?
What time do you finish work?
What time do you get home?
What time do you have dinner?
What time do you go to bed?
  • A day in the life of an English teacher.
An English teacher...wakes up at 9.30.
Then he gets up and has a coffee.
    Later he has a shower.
At 10.30 he has breakfast and reads the newspaper (in English, of course! ;-)
After that, he gets dressed and goes to work by train at 11.30.
He gets to work at 12.00.
He teaches from 12.00 to 2.00.
    He has lunch at 2.30.
He teaches from 4.00 to 9.00.
He has a drink with friends at 10.00 (every day?).
He goes home at 11.30 (if he lives in Spain, that is...).
He corrects homework form 12.00 to 1.00.
He goes to bed at 1.30.
